How GaiaCrete® Works

  • Carbon Negative: Industrial hemp absorbs CO₂ as it grows. When locked into a building material with lime, that carbon remains sequestered for the life of the structure. Studies from the University of Bath have confirmed that hemp-lime construction can be carbon negative over its lifecycle.

The Industrial Hemp Advantage

The 2018 Agriculture Improvement Act (commonly known as the Farm Bill) federally legalized industrial hemp in the United States, defining it as cannabis containing less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. This legislation opened the door for hemp-based building materials to enter the mainstream construction market.

Industrial hemp is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, reaching maturity in approximately 90 to 120 days. A single acre can yield 3 to 5 tons of hemp hurd suitable for building applications. Unlike timber, which takes decades to mature, hemp provides a rapidly renewable feedstock for construction materials.
